From Space Ship to Steam Ship: Galactic Funk Militia Storms the SS Great Britain
At the 2017 Bristol Harbour Festival, Galactic Funk Militia proved that cosmic grooves know no bounds when they traded their intergalactic spaceship for the iron decks of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s historic SS Great Britain.
Performing at the Dockyard Stage on Brunel Square, the multi-piece funk ensemble delivered a phenomenal set that brought the house down along the waterfront.
Armed with punchy horn lines, driving bass rhythms, and theatrical stage presence, the band stormed the festival stage, transforming the historic dry-dock into an open-air dance party. The juxtaposition of 19th-century maritime history and deep, intergalactic funk provided one of the standout highlights of the festival weekend, drawing a massive crowd to the harbour’s edge.
